Welcome to The Inclusive Movement

Creating a World Where Everyone Belongs

At The Inclusive Movement, we believe true inclusion is more than just access — it’s belonging.
Led by lived experience and grounded in a human rights framework, we partner with individuals, families, organisations, and communities to create environments where people with disability and neurodivergent individuals are valued, empowered, and supported to thrive.

Through inclusion consulting, disability awareness training, community capacity-building, and peer-led initiatives, we are changing the conversation about what’s possible when barriers are removed and strengths are celebrated.

Our Mission and Vision

Our Mission:
To empower communities with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to foster genuine social inclusion, accessibility, and belonging for people of all abilities.

Our Vision:
A society where inclusion is not an afterthought, but a foundation — where everyone, regardless of disability or neurodivergence, can participate fully, be respected for who they are, and live a life of their choosing.

Our Story: Lived Experience at the Heart

The Inclusive Movement was founded by Carol Hegan, a developmental educator, inclusion consultant, disability advocate, and proud neurodivergent parent.
Our journey began with a simple but powerful truth: when you have lived experience, you understand the urgent need for change — and you know that meaningful inclusion must be led by the voices of those most impacted.

Carol’s personal and professional experiences fuel everything we do, ensuring our services are not just informed by best practice, but by real life, real challenges, and real solutions.

We believe inclusion is not just an outcome; it’s an ongoing movement — and every person and organisation has a role to play.

What we do

We offer a range of services designed to create practical, sustainable change:

  • Inclusion Consulting: Helping organisations, workplaces, and community groups develop inclusive practices, policies, and environments.

  • Disability Awareness and Neurodiversity Training: Equipping communities with knowledge, empathy, and actionable strategies.

  • Community Capacity Building: Supporting local leadership, volunteering, and skill development opportunities for people with disability and their allies.

  • Peer-Led Support Programs: Facilitating community events, support groups, and leadership pathways driven by lived experience.

  • Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns: Amplifying disabled voices and working towards systemic change.

Every initiative we run is flexible, strengths-based, and tailored to the needs of each individual or community we serve.

Why Inclusion Matters

Inclusion benefits everyone.
When barriers are removed and environments are designed for all kinds of minds and bodies, communities become stronger, workplaces become more innovative, and individuals are empowered to live full, meaningful lives.

Through inclusive practices, we promote:

  • Social and economic participation

  • Better mental health and wellbeing outcomes

  • Diverse leadership and innovation

  • Greater community resilience and connection

Inclusion isn’t about helping people 'fit in' — it’s about changing systems so everyone belongs.
